DEAR COLLEAGUES...

This is a comprehensive advanced symposium for bone scientists, bone interestees, and clinicians of orthopedic, oral and maxillofacial, craniofacial, and neurosurgery patterned after the Portland Bone Symposium of years past. This symposium will bring together today’s’ leading researchers and clinicians such as A. Hari Reddi, John E. Davies, Philippe Hernigou, H. Thomas Temple, Julie Glowacki, Jeffrey O. Hollinger, Cameron M. L. Clokie and others to share their data and techniques. Current topics concerning both the research and clinical application for the BMP’s, stem cells, cytokines, tissue engineering, reconstructive approaches, osteoporosis, bisphosphonate toxicity and more will be presented. We will also feature an evening dinner amidst a prehistoric setting featuring a lecture by the World Renown Paleontologist Jack Horner titled "What the Bones of Tyrannosaurus Rex Tell Us."

The objectives and purposes of this symposium are simply the sharing and updating of knowledge related to bone science and the gathering of those interested to bring about collaborative efforts and foster further studies.

Upon completion of this conference participants will be able to:
•  have a comprehensive understanding of modern bone biology, tissue engineering, gene therapy, and bone regenerative mechanisms;
•  understand stem cell biology and its applications to clinical practice;
•  recognize the clinical utilization of recombinant bone morphogenetic protein and its limitations;
•  identify the disease of osteoporosis, its treatment alternatives and the complications; that can result from therapy.

This symposium is dedicated to Jeffrey O. Hollinger, originator of the Portland Bone Symposium and current Director of the Bone Tissue Engineering Center at the Carnegie Mellon Institute of Bone Science. It will also honor Dr. Phillip J. Boyne for his life long contributions to bone science and BMP research.
Please join us for a profoundly educational and fun 21/2 days. We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
